Setup Guide · Active Family Offices Database Portal

Getting started takes under a minute: click "Get my access key" in your Shopify order confirmation email, copy the access key, paste it into the portal, and you're in. That's the whole setup. Lost the email? See step 4, Recover your access key.

Steps 2 and 3 below are optional: they're for users who want the database inside Claude or ChatGPT. You don't need them: the portal already has search, filters, a built-in AI chat and CSV export, with nothing to install.

1Sign in to the portal: that's all you need

Open your Shopify order confirmation email ("Order #... confirmed", from Active Family Offices) and click "Get my access key". The key page shows your access key and your MCP connector URL. Copy the access key (it starts with afo_).

Open the portal: portal.activefamilyoffices.com. At the top right, find "User sign in" and paste the key into the "Paste your access key" box.

Click Sign in. Done: you have Full Database Access: every family office worldwide, all filters (region, country, state, type, investment focus, team size, family member on team, AUM disclosed, accepts deal submissions), full profiles with verified emails and personal LinkedIn profiles, unlimited "Ask the Database" AI chat, and CSV export.

You're all set. Everything works right here in your browser: search every office, ask questions in plain English (the AI chat is built in, no AI account needed), and export your segments to CSV. Nothing to install, nothing to configure. The rest of this guide is optional.

2Optional: connect the database to Claude

Skip this unless you already use Claude and want to query the database from inside your own AI chats; the portal works fully without it. If you are an AI power user: works with Claude on the web (claude.ai) and the Claude desktop app, on a paid Claude plan. Your MCP connector URL is on the same key page as your access key (the "Get my access key" button in your order confirmation, or step 4 below). It has the form https://portal.activefamilyoffices.com/mcp/<your access key>.

In Claude, open Settings → Connectors.

Click Add custom connector.

Name: Active Family Offices. URL: paste your MCP connector URL.

Click Add, then make sure the connector is enabled in your chat (search & tools menu).

Ask Claude things like: "Using the Active Family Offices connector, find single family offices in Texas investing in real estate with verified emails."

Claude will then see three tools: search_family_offices, get_family_office and get_database_stats, and can pull live, always-current data straight from the database in any chat: every office with its decision-makers, verified emails, family name, giant status, team size, AUM, wealth origin and deal submission channel.

3Optional: connect the database to ChatGPT

Also optional: same idea as the Claude connection, for people who live in ChatGPT. ChatGPT supports custom MCP connectors on paid plans (via developer mode / custom connectors, depending on your plan). Steps:

In ChatGPT, open Settings → Connectors (on some plans: Settings → Apps & Connectors).

If you don't see an option to add a custom connector, enable Developer mode first (Settings → Connectors → Advanced).

Click Create / Add custom connector. Name: Active Family Offices. MCP server URL: paste your MCP connector URL. Authentication: No authentication (the key is already in your URL).

Save. In a new chat, enable the connector from the tools/plus menu and ask away.

4Recover your access key

Your key is never lost. Three ways to get it back, all self-service, none of them needs a new key:

Order confirmation email. Open the Shopify order confirmation you received at purchase and click "Get my access key" (or "Get my MCP connector link"). The key page opens with your key and connector URL. Works at any time, as often as you like.

"Forgot your access key?" on the portal. Next to the sign-in box (or at portal.activefamilyoffices.com/#forgot) click Forgot your access key?, enter your order number (at the top of the order confirmation, for example 3209) and the email you used at checkout. Your key and connector URL appear right there, with a "Sign in with this key" button.

No order number at hand? In the same window click "Open your orders". Shopify emails you a one-time sign-in code; after signing in, open the order and the order number is at the top. Then use B.

Still stuck? Write to support@activefamilyoffices.com from your checkout email and we resend your order confirmation from Shopify. Keys are never regenerated automatically, so your MCP connector keeps working.

5Good to know

One plan. Full Database Access, $3,000 per year, every family office worldwide. Access runs for 12 months from purchase; a renewal extends the same key, so nothing to reconfigure.

Budgets. Rows pulled over the MCP connector and CSV export share a budget of 500 rows/month (resets on the 1st). Dashboard browsing has a separate 500 rows/day allowance. AI chat questions in the portal are unlimited.

One key, everywhere. The same access key signs you in to the portal and powers your Claude/ChatGPT connector. Don't share it; we rotate keys on request.

What is in a profile. Description, investment focus, family name, giant status (13F filer or billionaire family), family member on team, year founded, AUM, team size, wealth origin, deal submission channel, website, company LinkedIn, firm contact email and phone, and up to three decision-makers with SMTP-verified work emails and personal LinkedIn profiles. Every office carries the date it was added.

Privacy. Emails are SMTP-verified work emails. Personal contact fields are omitted for privacy-regulated countries (Europe incl. UK, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Canada).

Free preview. Without a key the portal shows every office with contact data locked, plus 3 AI questions a day after a free email signup. Lost the free chat on a new device? Enter the same email in "Start free" and it comes right back.
